Kulyash Baiseitova’s Song

In honor of the 110th anniversary of the opera legend, Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan, People’s Artist of the USSR, laureate of State Prizes Kulyash Baiseitova, on October 29, Astana Opera will host a musical evening Kulyashtin Ani, organized by the republican public association Vocalists’ Union of Kazakhstan. An award ceremony for performers who popularize Kulyash Baiseitova’s work will be held as part of the concert.

It is important to note that this year marks the 5th anniversary of the founding of the Vocalists’ Union of Kazakhstan. On the initiative of its chairman, Astana Opera’s opera company director, Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Azamat Zheltyrguzov, the union brings together performers from all over the country and promotes the popularization of vocal art.

“Although the Vocalists’ Union is a republican organization, its geography has expanded over time and we can say that it has reached the level of an international association. It currently has over 100 members. All of them are professionally qualified vocalists. I am also a member of this association, where both the older and the younger generation of musicians work fruitfully. They consult with us and thus the exchange of experience takes place. We have already held concerts of the Vocalists’ Union more than once. In this regard, I would like to note the significant work of the chairman of the association, Azamat Zheltyrguzov. The Vocalists’ Union began to award talented singers with the Kulyash Baiseitova medal in honour of significant dates starting from 2020. The main goal here is to bring glory to the name of the founder of the Kazakh opera Kulyash Baiseitova. I think that this is a really high award,” the Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan, pianist Raushan Beskembirova shared.

As a reminder, earlier the Vocalists’ Union awarded this medal to such famous Kazakh and foreign opera singers as Bibigul Tulegenova, Khorlan Kalilambekova, Kanat Omarbayev, Shakhimardan Abilov, Barseg Tumanyan, and Eva Marton. All of them are members of this public association. It should also be noted that the Bolshoi Theatre soloist, Honoured Artist of Russia Pavel Chernykh and other famous foreign artists became members of the union.

The opera house’s soloists, the Astana Opera International Opera Academy attendees and guest artists from regional philharmonics, in particular, Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan Sholpan Dukumbayeva from Kokshetau, cultural worker Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan Nuriyash Ospanova from Atyrau, will perform at the concert. In addition, Maestro Marat Aitimov from Aqtobe, the vocalist of the Shymkent City Opera and Ballet Theatre Aigul Azatova and others will take the stage this evening. As part of an exciting program, beautiful and melodic songs from Kulyash Baiseitova’s repertoire will be presented to the audience.

The Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan Galiya Baigazinova emphasized that at the concert she will present a rarely performed work, known as Shyghys Bulbuly, from the repertoire of the most titled artist of Kazakhstan.

“This concert is very important for me. We are preparing for it with great responsibility. Throughout my career, I performed almost all the songs from Kulyash Baiseitova’s repertoire, starting with her famous part from the opera Kyz Zhibek. I also presented in Poland a Polish folk song, which the legendary singer has performed more than once. All these musical compositions are very dear to me, because warm memories are connected with them.”

The festive part of the evening will be the award ceremony for the concert participants for their significant contribution to the development of the country’s art.

The concert will begin at 6 pm at the Kulyash Baiseitova Chamber Hall.
